UZH Card

Data Privacy and Security

From the 2015 Fall Semester, all UZH Cards will feature a new chip employing the latest in chip technology. This offers optimal data protection and better security at the entry to buildings.

Data Privacy

Pursuant to data privacy laws, only identification numbers and no sensitive data (data requiring special protection) are saved on the card. Without access to the relevant database, the data cannot be matched to a specific person. Moreover, the data can only be read by validation stations and UZH reading devices. Access is only possible after strong authentication.

Security

Thanks to the new chip technology, the communication distance between the UZH Card chip and reading devices at building entries has been reduced to a minimum. Communication functions only in close proximity to the reading devices. This makes undetected attacks on the wireless interface significantly more difficult.
